ABOUT OUR HIV PREVENTION SERVICES 

Street and Community Outreach

Staff and volunteers distribute safer sex kits which contain condoms and HIV and STD information.  Venues for outreach activities include: liquor stores, universities, shopping malls, beauty and barber shops, night clubs, house parties and other special events.

 

Counseling and Testing

Confidential and anonymous HIV testing utilizing the OraSure oral test method is available free of charge.  Tests are performed in BUB offices by appointment or walk in.  BUB staff can also schedule a home visit to perform a test. 

 

Education

BUB can provide on-site HIV/AIDS education.  Through formal partnerships with faith and community based organizations and social service providers BUB provided HIV education and information to 450 people in 2004.

Comprehensive Risk Counseling and Services (CRCS) The Prevention Connection: Comprehensive HIV Prevention for Men

The Prevention Connection is an intensive individualized client-centered prevention program for men who are HIV positive or negative, and have substance abuse issues that put them at high risk for HIV infection.

ABOUT OUR SUPPORT SERVICES

BUB has two support/discussion groups which provide a forum and safe place for participants to speak freely on HIV and other issues or topics. 

Brothers Living Positively (BLP) - is a Sunday night support group for men living with HIV. The group is facilitated by a licensed therapist and periodically co-facilitated by a HIV Treatment Advocate and/or a Peer Leader. Topics include: HIV risk reduction, secondary infection, esteem building, disclosure issues, medication adherence and side effects, depression, relationships, etc. Activities include movie nights and group field trips. This groups meeting twice monthly 2nd and 4th Sunday unless otherwise indicated.

NEW!
Medically Speaking - is a series of workshops/educational meetings that focus on a variety of treatment and health related topics and issues. Workshops are led by physicians and other health care professionals and will provide a forum for open discussion and questions and answers. Medically speaking sessions take place bi-monthly.

ABOUT OUR HOUSING PROGRAMS

The goal of The BUB Safe Space Initiative is reduce homelessness by providing safe and affordable housing for gay men and transgendered individuals living with and impacted by HIV/AIDS.  Safe Space is the only program of its kind in Northwest Indiana.  BUB assists clients with locating housing; long and short term rental assistance; case management services; transportation for housing and medical visits; and addressing other issues faced when attempting to secure and maintain safe and affordable housing.

 

The BUB Housing Information Program is a housing advocacy program that targets consumers, service providers and housing planners and providers to educate and increase awareness on the barriers that people living with HIV and other chronic diseases must face when attempting to secure housing.  Through education and advocacy BUB works with PLWH to assist in identifying and maintaining safe and affordable housing.  BUB works with housing planners and providers to identify set aside housing programs and develop voucher programs to ensure that safe and affordable housing is available.
